Birmingham Airport is located 8 miles(13 km) from the city center and 115 miles(185 km) from London. 

With about 13 million passengers in 2017, Birmingham Airport is the 7th busiest in the United Kingdom. 

The airport was opened on 8 July 1939 by the Duchess of Kent, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark. The first commercial maglev transport system in the world operated at this Airport from 1984 to 1995. The system was transferring passengers from the terminal to the railway station and back. 

 The airport features 2 terminals, several shops, restaurants, and service areas.
